Probing a circular wonder

Entry 89

Synopsis: India had a rich tradition of technological development. It was preserved in the memory, orally communicated, and transmitted, without written or graphic expressions. Some of these traditions survive even today in the livelihood of rural people. These are not just industries or crafts but a way of life for these people. This programme documents the manufacturing process of wooden wheels used in bullock carts. Here the artisans employ a host of scientific disciplines without being aware of the underlying implication of their craft. In this particular instance we even come across a primitive version of craftsmanship through division of labour.
