Clean water, Sanitation and healthy Lifestyle- A fantasy

Entry 111

Synopsis: The film focused on the livelihood of the people living in slum and squatters area within Kathmandu- the capital city of Nepal. Basically the film highlights severe water crisis and sanitation status of the community which has been affecting their health condition. To dwell in the contaminated and stinky environment, temporary shacks, poverty, scarcity, appetite and death connected morbidity is the mere reality of the community. The result is vulnerable diseases. Government and non-government organizations have adopted some plans and policies to lift up the community status but such attempts could not get completed. This is due to the urbanization and wide population expansion resulting higher demand of water and haphazard use of natural resources has reduced the water resources to maximum. The urbanization has increased even more due to the past conflict between the government and the Maoist group. Nepal is under peace process now. Problems of solid waste dumping in the rivers, discharge of industrial effluents together with direct discharge of domestic sewage have made the rivers excessively polluted. UN has declared the Millennium Development Goals. Nepal has also expressed its written commitment. But by viewing the present water and sanitation status of the country, achieving MDG in that regards, though could be possible in black and white, in reality, its seems least possible. Yet there are lots of challenges to face for the achievement of Millennium Development Goals.
