The Samanthas

Synopsis: This ethnographic TV program is a visual study of the livelihood and culture of the Samanthas or the khonds of Visakhapatnam agency in Andhra Pradesh. The Samanthas are one of the few surviving slash and burn cultivators or “primitive tribal groups”. They speak kuvi, which is blended with Telegu in Andhra Pradesh. This visual anthropological attempt is made to potray the nature-man association and the associated belief system.
